2015 AWARD WINNERS

Dr. Davis is Professor and Vice-Dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta. Her work focuses on rare cancers (including brain tumors and ovarian cancers) and environmental exposures, including ionizing radiation. This includes characterizing radiogenic cancer risks associated with low dose and low dose rate environmental exposures. Her work with ovarian cancers includes understanding why, given that survival rates for ovarian cancer have improved with new therapies, survival differences by demographic groups persist within stages of disease. CSEB is also pleased to announce that Dr. Davis will be chairing the 2017 CSEB Conference in Edmonton, Alberta.

Dr. Munir Sheikh is an Executive Fellow at The School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary. He recently served as a co-Commissioner of Ontario’s Social Assistance Review and was a Distinguished Fellow at Queens University and Carleton University. Before taking these appointments, he served as the Chief Statistician of Canada. He was appointed to that position on June 16, 2008 by the Prime Minister. He resigned from this position on July 21, 2010. As Chief Statistician, he was instrumental in developing the Agency’s first ever Corporate Business Plan, establishing a wide-ranging program to maintain the pre-eminence of Statistics Canada in the international community of statistical organizations.

Dr. Susan Jaglal has been a long serving board member with the CSEB and is currently past-president and co-chair of the 2015 CSEB Conference. Dr. Jaglal is the Vice-Chair Research and Professor in University of Toronto’s Department of Physical Therapy and holds the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute Chair.  She is also a professor in the Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto, an adjunct senior scientist at the Institute for Clinical and Evaluative Sciences (ICES), and senior researcher at the Women’s College Research Institute. Her expertise and research interests are in epidemiology, health services research, musculoskeletal disorders, osteoporosis, and rehabilitation health services.

Dr. Rosella is an assistant professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (Epidemiology) at the University of Toronto. She is also a scientist at Public Health Ontario and adjunct scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES). Her expertise and professional interests are in  epidemiologic methods, applied biostatistics, population and public health, population-based risk tools to support public health planning, research in diabetes and obesity, and public health policy. Dr. Rosella is currently the chair of the local organizing committee for the 2015 CSEB Conference.
